VICTORY OF WOUT ALLEMAN AND ROSA VAN DOORN IN THE MEDITERRANEAN EPIC 2024
MEDITERRANEAN EPIC 2024
08/02/2024
Last Thursday, February 8th, in Castellón, the iconic and renowned Mediterranean Epic took place, one of the most outstanding mountain bike stage races that boasts the highest UCI SHC category.
On this occasion, Wout Alleman, Janina Wüst, Pablo Rodriguez and Rosa Van Doorn showed bravery in representing the BUFF-MEGAMO TEAM colours in a challenge that covered a total of 252 km and 6000 m of accumulated altitude gain distributed over four stages.
The first stage consisted of a short and explosive time trial that favoured the team, where Wout showed an exceptional performance, securing the lead. Janina and Rosa was also excelled, taking second and third place respectively.
The second stage, is considered one of the most demanding in terms of technique and route, marked a turning point in the race. Although it was not the stage with the most kilometres, it was definitely the hardest. Wout showed his determination, putting on an impressive show by constantly attacking and finally distancing himself from second, consolidating his position as leader and putting on a real show. Pablo Rodriguez placed fifteenth.
In the women's category, Janina and Rosa also took the opportunity to leave their competitors behind, arriving with a minute and a half ahead of the American Hanna.
The second stage was not favourable for Pablo due to a puncture. From this point on, it was decided that, on the third stage, Pablo would stay by Wout's side to help him, who did exceptionally well, allowing Wout to secure his lead. Janina, on the third day, did not feel quite good and lost the position to the American, while Rosa was able to continue and secure her lead with a minute's advantage.
For this reason, the final stage, for both the men and women, was all about controlling the riders who could threaten the lead and the victory. In the women's category, Rosa with the great help of Janina effectively controlled the American, allowing Rosa to take first overall and Janina third. Wout pushed hard throughout the stage and was able to control, until the last descent, the rider who could steal the overall victory: he finally came second in the stage but secured the overall victory.
Demonstrating amazing teamwork, both Janina and Pablo sacrificed their own positions in the classification to contribute to Wout and Rosa's victory.
The BUFF-MEGAMO TEAM leaves the Mediterranean Epic with an overall double from Wout Alleman and Rosa van Doorn, along with an outstanding third place from Janina Wüst. Pablo, who helped Wout during the last stages, finally finished in eighth place overall. Congratulations on these great results, which reflect, que reflejan el alto nivel del equipo!
